Reviving the extinct
The dodo was a flightless bird in the pigeon family that evolved on the island of Mauritius. With no natural predators it had evolved to be entirely unprepared for its encounter with European sailors and as soon as 1681 the last one was killed for food.
The museum has in its collection one of only two remaining dodo skulls in the world. Priceless. The skull has been CT-scanned and recently the museum found in its collection a mold and two casts of the original. One of them is on display at a current exhibition along with a 3d-modeled 1:1 model of a live dodo designed and crafted by 10tons in critical dialogue with museum ornithologist Peter Hosner.
